Just before 3 pm. It began raining heavily with lightning and thunder. I emptied the rain gauge - .54 inch since 7 am. Figured I should put my hail pad out. It was too windy to lie flat so I wedged it in a cage around a small tree just as it started hailing - maybe 3:04 pm. Dumped pea size hail and rain for 6 minutes with winds from the Northeast at 8 mph gusts. In ten minutes, I had .3 inch of more rain in the gauge and some of the hail not melted yet. Wow. |
