Notes: |
Sudden hail fall, unexpected, no rain or thunder. Small stones -- bigger than rice, but a bit smaller than 1/4 inch. Air temp was 55 degrees. White ice. I thought they might be pretty soft because all stones had melted within 1.5 minutes of cessation of hail fall. On the other hand, stones were hard enough to bounce out of funnel in my collector. I counted seven "escapees" (with binoculars). Not sure how many stayed in. No pad. Sparse accumulation, perhaps 10-15% ground coverage. |
